Halle department store
Architectural competition 1st Prize and subsequent design commission
Right in the middle of the historic old town of Halle, the ‘Kaufhof’ department store has been extended by approx. 10,000 m² sales areas.
In its urban planning structure, the new building relates to its predecessor, a historic building called ‘Alte Waage’.
The alignment of the front is realized in direction of the Red Tower, thereby closing the gap at Market Square which has been there for decades.
In addition to the gracefully designed new building, two existing buildings have been integrated into the new department store complex: the former land registry office from the early 20th century as well as a small town house originating from medieval times.
