Architectural competition 1st Prize and subsequent design commission

Right in the middle of the historic old town of Halle, the ‘Kaufhof’ department store has been extended by approx. 10,000 m² sales areas.

In its urban planning structure, the new building relates to its predecessor, a historic building called ‘Alte Waage’.

In addition to the gracefully designed new building, two existing buildings have been integrated into the new department store complex: the former land registry office from the early 20th century as well as a small town house originating from medieval times.
